Dear Reader,
Two days ago (Thurs, Dec 17, 2020) I turned in the last final of my undergraduate bachelors degree in Computer Science. When I clicked the submit button, I sat for a moment puzzled as to what came next.
I spent a few minutes reviewing the rest of my classes just to make sure I wasn’t missing something. When I had thoroughly convinced myself I was done I sat there alone. I became filled with mixed emotions. I’m sure many have felt this, after years of being inundated with homework and tests to study for, then suddenly you’re free.
Ha! I’m done! And it sets in. Almost the same as when you first moved out of your parents home, “I can do anything I want.” I finally don’t have anything to procrastinate! I let the feeling soak in for a bit, I called my parents, siblings, and wife (who was away with the kids to give me space to study) to celebrate. They were obviously excited for me, but once the calls were over I was left with this feeling of “what now?” Almost like I was procrastinating, but I didn’t know what.
Two days later here I am. This morning I woke up, at 5:30 like I normally do, and during my morning routine have been determined to find the answer to the unknown task I am procrastinating. A few things have been floating around in my head. I could finally start tackling that ever growing list of side project ideas. I could dust off the old mandolin. I could write a book … Nope, for sure not that one.
For now I have settled on option D, all of the above, starting with the first on the side project list, start a blog. My goal is to complete a MVP of one of my side projects once every three months, if more often than great, but for now once a quarter is fine for me. For each project I’ll write a bit about it including some technical bits that hopefully come in useful for someone out there.
In between projects I am going to use this as my brain vomit for other things I’m interested in: business, religion, health, self-improvement, family, and discipline. Thanks so much for getting this far, and hopefully you enjoy what I write. So here’s to the rest of my life I guess.
Cheers,
Jacob Strong
