I’ve never been one to believe in or have an interest in astrology, but earlier this year my wife and I took a vacation to Hawaii. After lunch one day we were walking in and out of little shops in a strip mall. We walked into a crystal store and a bubbly young lady welcomed us in and began showing my wife around the store. I wandered around picking up items here and there but mostly just counting down time until I would suggest to my wife we move on....
Gadwall Habits
Gadwall Habits Gadwall habits is a simple habit tracking app. It enables you to identify habits you want to work on. Then each day you can mark a habit as completed, missed, or skipped. You can then view your history and edit it if you have any corrections to make. It’s up to you if you wan’t to skip tracking a habit for a day. Some examples of when I skip a habit is for habits that only happen on certain days of the week, or when I’m on vacation....
The AI hype is about to slow down
I think the AI hype is about to slow down. This week I am attending Dell Technologies World. In one of the breakout sessions I attended the presenter showed a chart that looked like the one below. I’m no fortune teller but I feel like we’re nearing the peak of the first hype curve. GenAI and specifically LLMs have been deployed in tons of applications and it seems at this point that most online comanies have integrated them to some degree in their products....
Snek
Dear reader, In this post I am going to talk about a game I made for the Coding Blocks Game Jam, called Hidden Snek. TLDR: It’s a game you play in the developer tools. Link to it here. The Inspiration I got the idea to do this from Stewart Smith’s website stewartsmith.io. If you haven’t checked out any of his stuff I highly recommend it. My first exposure to him was his Browser Pong game....
Coding on the Lake
Dear Reader, Our family has a tradition of spending a week every May living on a houseboat on Lake Powell in southern Utah. A week before we left I asked my sister to help me come up with a game that I could build in about a week that we could all play down on the lake. The requirements were pretty simple. I wanted a game that: I could build in about a week....
4 Months Late
Dear Reader, I decided to create this blog in December. It wasn’t live until May! Why you might ask? I have no good answer. Why am I finally launching it today? It was said somewhere: It is better to do something crappy than to not do it at all. I don’t even think this blog is crappy, I just haven’t gotten around to finishing posting it. Not sure what else to say about this....
The bLog
Dear Reader, So today is a month and a half after I wrote my first post. Didn’t think it would take me this long to get this up. I finally decided to use Hugo to build this blog, and I’m using the amazing PaperMod theme by Aditya Telange. Not sure if it will be the same by the time you finally read this, but I’m loving it so far. Before I started using Hugo I built it using Jekyll, why did I switch to Hugo?...
Hello World
Dear Reader, Two days ago (Thurs, Dec 17, 2020) I turned in the last final of my undergraduate bachelors degree in Computer Science. When I clicked the submit button, I sat for a moment puzzled as to what came next. I spent a few minutes reviewing the rest of my classes just to make sure I wasn’t missing something. When I had thoroughly convinced myself I was done I sat there alone....
